The Alison Centre
The Alison Centre, as named after the founder Alison Kay, was started a few years ago when the The People’s Kitchen moved to a former Christian Science Church on Bath Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne.
From here, we now regularly touch the lives of about 650 of our friends every week. All are offered friendship, food and clothing which are freely given. Nobody who is in need is turned away, no questions are asked.
The Alison Centre is the focal point for our operation, it provides us with:
- Canteen facilities - we prepare and provide evening meals for between 120 -140 people each night we are open.
- ‘Warehousing’ - storage space for the food and clothing we are kindly donated.
- Distribution of food to our friends on the streets.
- Distribution of clothing - We provide clothing; from footwear to outer garments on request.
- Fresh Start - our learning resource centre.
- Help Desk - to provide accommodation and medical information.
