Thanks to the generosity of local people, we have recently received a high number of applications from people wishing to join us to help out in the Kitchen, therefore at the moment we are only able to respond to applications for the following roles:

Non Executive Director

The People’s Kitchen is seeking a Non Executive Director to attend quarterly board meetings, (plus occasional ad hoc events), in a position of oversight to support good governance and compliance, and to ensure efficient and effective delivery of a range of services to homeless / vulnerable people.

The successful candidate will help to formulate strategy, identify and minimise areas of risk and promote the long term future of the charity.

You should have a strong background within the Charity sector with a sound knowledge of law applicable to charities. They will be excellent communicators and will demonstrate a strong background in promoting good governance and compliance within the third sector. Astute financial skills are a pre-requisite. They will also share the trustees’ passion, commitment and values for promoting support and assistance to vulnerable members of our society. This is a voluntarily role, subject to a 6 months probationary period.

Operations Manager

The People’s Kitchen requires an Operations Manager who is prepared to volunteer 4 hours per day x 5 days per week, on a flexi-time basis.

Duties and responsibilities will be as follow:-
• goods reception, storage and distribution
• donor delivery management
• telephone messaging management
• facilities management, including premises, security, hygiene
• quality control purchasing and services delivery
• provide resources for events and projects
• recruit ad-hoc help at busy times for donation reception and storage

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
• strong organisational and interpersonal skills
• an ability to work effectively in a team environment
• excellent project, planning and time management
• previous experience of working in operational management
• a strong commitment to equal opportunities and social justice

Training and Development Assistant

Applicants with demonstrable experience of implementing learning initiatives are required to assist with the development of both our new and existing volunteers. Previous experience of working with agencies involved in providing support to homeless/ vulnerable adults in relation to the myriad issues they face, will be of particular assistance in relation to this role.

Food Preparation / Server - Outreach Team

Under the direction of a team leader, this role will involve serving hot and cold food drinks from our mobile catering unit, dish washing, clearing tables, and general observation of the service users for any potential problems. At the end of the session the team will return to the centre making sure it is left clean and tidy ready for use by the next session.

Please Note: Applicants should have a current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.

We have roles available in the following sessions: Monday evenings.

Food Preparation - Wednesday Afternoons

This role involves preparing food in readiness for the Friday evening session at The People’s Kitchen, and washing/tidying up afterwards.

Please Note: Applicants should have a current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.

Gardener

A volunteer is sought to undertake general gardening duties in the allotment Tuesday mornings between 9.30 and 12.30.

The charity has adopted the good guidance guidelines suggested by the Charities Commission. To ensure compliance, all volunteers must provide us with the name of two referees, agree to DBS checks and undertake an induction period covering all aspects of helping at The People’s Kitchen.
