Our Values

  • The Charity is a gateway for the vulnerable for friendship, food and clothing, providing a safety net and vital lifeline for the disadvantaged, many of who are homeless and disenfranchised from mainstream society. The down aging of service users continues with over 60% of those seeking support under 24 years of age.
  • The charity provides some 35,000 free acts of kindness throughout the year, supporting homeless and disadvantaged people in Newcastle for 25 years.
  • The charity is run and operated by over 150 volunteers. There are no payroll or expense claims.
  • The charity does not receive public funding and relies entirely on the goodwill of business and the community to finance its essential services.
  • Founded in 1985, the charity has 25 years experience supporting homeless and disadvantaged people in Newcastle where it's services are well established and are trusted by our service users.
  • The board of Trustees guarantees that generosity does not go to waste. The Trustees plan the strategy, funding and operating guidelines for client services which are delivered through an appointed Kitchen Council.
  • The charity has adopted the good guidance guidelines suggested by the Charities Commission. To ensure compliance, a well tried and tested recruitment policy, CRB screening and an on-going training programme are in place.
  • The charity has a positive balance sheet and no debt. The charity owns the Alison Centre.
  • There is an increasing acknowledgement of the need of the charity to work in conjunction with other welfare agencies for our service users' benefit. An "Information Point" has been set up to signpost client services available from other providers.
