Schools and Churches

75% of our food for the year comes to us through the enormous efforts of schools and churches at Harvest Festival time. Our work would not be possible without this support.

We need your help

Without the support of schools and churches throughout North East England, we wouldn’t be able to provide over 40,000 meals a year for our Friends.

Strong links, forged with over 300 churches, schools and community-led organisations is essential to us. Harvest Festival time is a critical time for The People’s Kitchen. Thanks to the generosity in this region, we are able to fill our warehouse with the majority of the dried and non-perishable food needed to keep our cooks busy throughout the year.

Harvest Festival time

It is thanks to school and churches across the whole of the North East that after Harvest Festival time, our warehouse is brimming with food. Thanks to pupils and individual’s generosity, we are able to ensure that our kitchen is kept cooking all throughout the year. If you would like to arrange a Harvest Festival collection, please contact us on 0191 222 0699 and we can advise of what is the most useful supplies for us.

Inform and Educate

The People’s Kitchen aims to spread the word about the work that we do and we work closely with local schools, community groups and churches to hold talks to their pupils, parishioners and members. Our talks our informative and educate about the cause of homelessness and how to support others who may be in difficult situations. If you would like to arrange a talk, please get in touch and we would be happy to help.

“As a Deputy Head of a Primary School, I had been impressed by The People’s Kitchen and when I retired, I decided to volunteer. I now work with schools, mainly around harvest time, but also by visiting schools and speaking to pupils about our work.”
