Our grateful thanks
Over the past 10 years development of The People’s Kitchen drop-in centre has been made possible through the kind generosity of William Leech Trust.
This includes recent refurbishments particularly in the foyer area. We have been able to negotiate with the William Leach Trust who have worked with us for many years.
Recently they have helped to fund a media presentation to give us proper materials which we can use to communicate to schools, churches, businesses and universities.

Greggs Bakery are great friends to The People’s Kitchen we are extremely grateful to the management and staff.
Our small van was brought by the staff of Greggs Bakery, and collects from the bakery 15 trays of bread, stotties, buns, savories and cakes, five days a week.
Funding help from the Northern Rock Foundation has enabled us to establish our learning resource centre FreshStart and allowed us to develop this website. We are very grateful to their commitment going forward for the future.
Some of our long-term friends that deserve a mention are Marks and Spencer (South Shields), Boots (Newcastle upon Tyne) and Redemption Foods.
A very warm Thank You to all of sponsors and volunteers; without your help we would not be able to continue our work
A special ‘thank you’ to Frank Farmer
Many helpers have made outstanding contributions over the years.
Christianity was the strongest theme and commitment of his life. He had outstanding scientific gifts:
- He invented the ‘Farmer Dosemeter’ which became a standard instrument in radiotherapy departments throughout the world.
- He developed a radiotherapy service at the RVI which became the centre of excellence within his profession.
- Frank became an integral part of The People’s Kitchen and was particularly well known for ‘fixing things’
He is much missed
Our Trustees
A big thank you to our board of trustees who have helped maintain this wonderful service to the North East.
