Dr Adam Hansen of Northumbria University has set out to make Shakespeare accessible to all through his Shakespeare Club: a free, public, informal, and friendly reading group devoted to helping everyone enjoy Shakespeare held ‘on the road’ in locations across the north of England.

Open to all with reader-friendly copies of the play available, Adam led the group of Friends and volunteers through King Lear, providing an opportunity for people to explore what Shakespeare means to them, and what they make of Shakespeare.

Following the highly successful event, a number of Friends and volunteers expressed an interest in starting a book club. With help from the University, the inaugural book club took place in September with some great discussion and a screening of this month’s chosen story.

“A big thanks to Adam for providing a welcoming, informal and very enjoyable session and for laying the foundations for the book club, a regular creative outlet.” David Yellowley, Trustee
