An offer to purchase a homeless person a Christmas lunch, launched by in the run-up to Christmas, really caught the public’s imagination.

The offer, which allowed people of the North East to purchase a £5 voucher which would go directly to the Kitchen, went viral and within days an enormous £6,625 had been raised.

Both ourselves and the team at were totally blown away by the interest and support which will help to provide meals not just for Christmas Day but throughout the rest of the Winter. The offer also caught the attention of a number of local businesses who helped to promote the offer, many of which have gone on to offer support throughout the coming year.

The People’s Kitchen opened its doors as usual on Christmas Day and provided a three course meal to hundreds of homeless and vulnerable people. On the day, the team visited the Kitchen to hand over the cheque to our Trustee, Colin Herron.
With all staff being volunteers for the charity it means that all of your funds went to help those truly in need at a time they need it more than ever. founder, Chris Tubman, said: ‘It was a very humbling experience meeting the people and hearing their stories. It certainly makes you be really grateful for what we have. A big thank you to everyone who donated for making such a big difference.”
