Local chef Dave Coulson has decided to spread some Christmas joy to the homeless and vulnerable this year. He will be doing this by heading down to our Kitchen on 8 December to help our team of volunteers.
Master Chef: The Professionals finalist Dave is now head chef and co-owner of the lovely restaurant Peace & Loaf. He is hoping to use his skills and knowledge of affordable food and flavours, as well as his love of a challenge to create something really special for the homeless and vulnerable people of Newcastle this Christmas.
Dave will be giving up his time and volunteering to cook, as well as teaching the volunteer cooks how to make cheap, nutritious food on a budget from scratch, something he hopes will be beneficial longer term, rather than just over Christmas.
Dave Coulson, said: “I am really looking forward to helping out in the kitchen and serving the food. I am honoured to be doing this and welcome the opportunity to help the charity and the people they support in any way I can. I hope that my experience will be of benefit to them all over Christmas and in the future”
As well as helping to cook and prepare the food, Dave will be supplying much of the ingredients from our restaurant, saving much-needed funds from the charity and allowing the volunteers and trustees to spend the money on the numerous other services that they offer.
Dave will be helping to prepare the food and teaching the volunteer cooks how to best prepare cost effective, nutritious tasty meals at The People’s Kitchen at the Alison Centre in Newcastle on the 8th December from 4.30-8pm, and then Dave will be assisting serving food to the homeless and vulnerable at Old Trafalgar Street in Newcastle from 8-9pm.
