As part of an innovative new study programme, The People’s Kitchen partnered with Collingwood School of Excelsior Academy in a project on vulnerability. Coinciding with the 87th anniversary of the Jarrow march, a group of bold year seven and eight children and teachers braced themselves for the gale force winds for a two and a half hour walk to The People’s Kitchen. Arriving cold and hungry, they got a sense of what it’s like to feel vulnerable and be welcomed inside for nourishment. For the next part of the project, the children are filling shoe boxes with gifts and essentials for Friends of The People’s Kitchen, each one with a personal message from each child.
